Dr Ian Mell, Lecturer in Environmental & Landscape Planning, University of Manchester
I am a Landscape Planner with a specialism in Green Infrastructure policy, planning and development. I have worked in academia, the environment sector and local government, and have extensive experience of researching landscape issues in the UK, EU and more widely in the USA, India and China. I have worked on large-scale EU funding projects looking at the economic value of green space in urban areas (Interreg IVB) and am currently part of front-runner city team working on URBAN GreenUP (HO2020) which will investigate how nature-based solutions (NBS) can help solve urban climate issues. In addition I am developing a multi-partner collaboration in Belfast (Northern Ireland) to assess the value of park as inclusive spaces in a city of historical conflict. I am also the author of Global Green Infrastructure (Mell, 2016, Routledge) and Green Belt: Part, Present, Future? (Sturzaker & Mell, 2017, Routledge).
